October
SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
WA Public School Holidays - Sat 26th of September to Sun 11th of October, 2020
Strategic Objective: Crime Prevention > Focus Area: Target Hardening
WA Police typically see a spike in opportunistic crime during the school holidays. Learn how to target harden your property by visiting our Crime Prevention page.
Halloween - Saturday 31st of October, 2020
Strategic Objective: Community Connection > Focus Area: Events
Strategic Objective: Safe Spaces > Focus Area: Child Safety
Despite being what some would consider a North American tradition, Halloween is actually a pagan celebration dating back thousands of years. In recent years, neighbourhoods across Australia have begun to use the day as opportunity to connect with their neighbours and spread some joy throughout their local community.
We actively encourage people across the City of South Perth to get involved in Halloween each year, however we also appreciate that some community members aren't quite so keen! Fortunately, WA Police has created some handy "YES" and "NO" posters that residents can print and display outside their homes to send a friendly message to passers-by.

CITY OF SOUTH PERTH EVENTS
Hard Waste Collection 12th of October to 30th November, 2020
Strategic Objective: Crime Prevention > Focus Area: Broken Window Theory
Strategic Objective: Community Connection > Focus Area: Events
Strategic Objective: Active Places > Focus Area: Sustainability
In preparation for the City’s Hard Waste Collection, we encourage residents to explore other options to reduce their footprint and keep their neighbourhoods safe and tidy.
You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! If you have items that you no longer want or need, that are still in reasonable condition, don’t throw them out on the verge to be added to landfill - offer them up on your local Buy Nothing page!
Buy Nothing is a great way to give, get and connect with your neighbours. To join your local group, please visit your suburb’s page in the Engage section.
The City has a number of options when it comes to keeping things from landfill. You can dispose of the following items FOR FREE at the recycling centre, and the City will recycle them on your behalf:
-
e-Waste (TVs, computers etc)
-
Cardboard (clean)
-
Used motor oil
-
Scrap metal
-
Fluorescent lighting tubes / globes
-
Household and vehicle batteries
-
Styrofoam
The recycling centre also has a number of charity bins so that you can donate clothing in a safe and secure location.

On Saturday the 24th of October from 10am to 2pm, the CoSP Recycling Centre will be accepting for safe disposal wrapped sheets of asbestos (up to 3 per household).
For more information, please visit the City’s “Asbestos” page.
Garage Sale Trail (Sat 21st & Sun 22nd of November)
Another great way to dispose of items that you no longer have use for is via the “Garage Sale Trail”.
